I'm always glad to answer questions about CotN, so feel free to use formspring to ask me or the cast anything. You can also e-mail me at yuugi.desu(at)gmail(dot)com if you have several questions. Here's some of the most frequently asked questions I get:

Q:

When does CotN update?

A:

For now CotN updates twice a week on Monday and Friday. You can follow updates through RSS, but I also announce them on twitter, tumblr and facebook.

Q:

How do you draw your comic? What kind of materials do you use?

A:

I draw and ink the comic pages traditionally using micron pigma pens, then I scan and fix the lineart. I finish inking large areas of black (like clothes and hair) digitally and finally, I apply screentones with deleter comicworks. I have recorded my process of doing pages step by step in here.

Q:

Will you ever print CotN?

A:

Yes, I plan to print it. Currently I am fixing the art on the older chapters. Some panels and pages are being completely redrawn and I also plan to do add some exclusive content to the printed version, so it's taking awhile. I most likely will run a funding campaign to cover printing costs later this year (2012).

Q:

What inspired your art style and the storyline for COTN?

A:

For the art style it's just inspirations and influences over the years, mixed with developing a style of my own. For the storyline, the first plot idea came to me over ten years ago when I was really into the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, but mostly from Dracula where there's actual vampire hunters. The title of the webcomic even comes from a line from Dracula. This story is as much about vampires as it is about vampire hunters. Another influence are Victorian romance novels like Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre (I love the Brontė sisters). Mostly, CotN is an amalgam of everything I like in a story: romance, drama, action, sword fights, etc.

Q:

How long does it take you to draw a page? How do you manage to update twice a week?

A:

It takes quite a lot of time to complete a page, especially if it's complicated with a lot of characters and details. On average a page takes about 6 to 7 hours to complete. I manage to update twice a week by giving up on a lot of my free time, so there's a possibility the comic will go back to updating only once a week later this year, when I start school.

Q:

I think I've discovered some plot holes, like: how come the hunters don't wipe out all the vampires? Are you ever going to cover that?

A:

CotN is a very long story that only updates once or twice a week. Please be patient as the story develops. I take great care in world building as it is one of my favorite parts of writing, so don't worry, all questions will get their answers at the appropriate time. If you are really curious about something and just can't wait, you can ask me via formspring. If it's not a spoiler I'll be glad to answer and elaborate.

Q:

Will you link my comic?

A:

I don't do link exchanges per request, since I'd like to promote only works I read. However if you think I'll like your comic, feel free to e-mail me, but keep in mind I might not have the time to read it.
